Hello Canyon Families.  This is Principal Steinecke with some messages for April.  I hope that you got my email with our April newsletter that also contains information about our school.  Open House, Book Fair and Food Faire are next Thursday with the Food Faire starting at 5:00.  If you would like to contribute to our food faire, the forms are due back tomorrow.  I will email more specifics about the night later this week.  We have our African American Alliance network meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 and this Thursday is our Padres Unidos at 6:30.  All families are welcome to attend these meetings.  I also want to remind everyone that we have our CAASPP/SBAC testing starting at the end of the month.  More details to follow about that as well.  Lastly, I want to thank our PTA and Athletic Boosters for our updated Marquee.  We are still working out the bugs for the new system so we will have more regular updates on that soon.  I hope you had a restful and fun Spring Break.  We only have 9 weeks left of school, let’s make them count!!

Good evening Canyon Families – this is Principal Steinecke with some updates and information for March.  Firstly, remember that Sunday we spring forward an hour and I want all of our Condors on time Monday.   Secondly, we start the wonderful adventure of Outdoor School for our 6th graders on Monday.  Please plan accordingly since families will be parking and bringing luggage to D-11.  Keep this in mind for this Monday and the following two Mondays.   Also, for all families, our PTA meeting has been moved to March 20th.  We will have a presentation from our Math Department and I will discuss our school’s response to violent intruders.  I really appreciate your support of our school and the students.  I am grateful that we can take events in stride and find creative, positive solutions that benefit our school and community.  Together, we must teach our children patience and empathy while supporting change and progress.  Thank you for all that you do.

October 24, 2017

Hello Canyon Families – This is Principal Steinecke with a fundraising message.  If you’ve ordered cookie dough, wrapping paper, bags or other items through our fundraiser, they will be available for pick up tomorrow after school in the cafeteria.  If the item to pick up is cookie dough or cheesecake, for example, then a parent will need to pick up the items due to our Wellness Policy.  The cafeteria will be open 2:15-6:00.  Thank you and have a good evening.

October 18, 2017

Good evening Canyon Families – this is Principal Steinecke with some announcements about the next few weeks.

Before the announcements, I want to remind parents that we cannot have you parking in the red zones around school.  These are fire lanes and need to be open for emergencies.  Also, please slow down when you are in the parking lots and follow all posted signs and directions of staff.

Tomorrow, we will participate in the Great Shakeout earthquake drill.  We will be holding the drill between 10-11, so if you are trying to pick up your child during this time, it will take longer to get your child to the office.’

On Friday is our annual Battle of the Valley.  If you are attending, remember that students need their IDs and backpacks and other large items are not allowed into the CVHS Stadium.

Our bell schedule is different for this Thursday and Friday as well.  We have a 2:10 release on both days so that teachers can work to prepare Quarter 1 grades.

Next week we start Quarter 2 and will be holding for conferences for students that are struggling.  There is a note sent home and you will be contacted by your student’s teacher if you are invited to attend conferences.  Conferences are Thursday and Friday so our bell schedule is affected.  Thursday October 26 is a 12:45 release day and there is no school Friday October 27.

And looking ahead, please remember that there is no school November 10th in observance of Veteran’s Day.

Hello Canyon Families – this is Principal Steinecke with a message about this week at Canyon.  As many of you are aware, tomorrow is our 7th and 8th grade Back to School Night.  We will begin at 6pm in the gymnasium Please remember that parking is very difficult that night and I encourage you to carpool or walk if you are able.  We will have our campus patroller and admin out to help direct traffic.  Please follow their directions and be a courteous and safe driver.

Secondly, I would like to invite you to our first Padres Unidos, or United Parents, meeting in the library on Thursday at 6:30.  Come join us as we discuss upcoming events such as Hispanic Heritage Month and ways that we can help to support you and your child at Canyon.

Lastly, we are still looking for 2 more host families to receive a pair of boys and a pair of girls.  This is a great opportunity to share Canyon and our homes with these students.  If you are interested, let me or Ms. Wong know for more information.

Have a great evening, please.  I look forward to seeing you this week.  Thank you

Hello Canyon 6th Grade Families – This is Principal Steinecke with a message about Back to School Night tomorrow night.  The event will begin at 6pm in the gymnasium with a short message and presentation from our administrative team.  Then afterward you will follow along your student’s schedule as you visit the classrooms.

A couple of important points.  We have over 450 6th graders and we don’t have 450 parking spots, so parking becomes challenging.  If you can, please car pool with another family and come early.  We will have staff in the parking lots to help with parking and traffic so please drive safely and follow directions.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.  Have a good night.

Secondly, our parking lots after school are very crowded with great families and students.  Please remember to not park along red curbs and the slow down on campus.  And, as always, please follow the direction of staff members.  We are working to get each and every student home safely.
